Our family has decided to create a Postie Ride Adventure to honour our son, Matthew. Our aim is to raise much needed funds and awareness of the debilitating Mitochondrial disease. Matthew was diagnosed with MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) at the age of 19.
We hope to raise money through donations and sponsorship for the Mito Medical Network. They are a newly formed professional body for all specialists working in the area of mitochondrial disease. The founders of this new organisation were there supporting Matthew and our family through his entire mitochondrial journey.
We want to give back to this amazing team of professionals so they can continue to research, support, educate and care for patients with mitochondrial disease.
Our Mission is to enhance the quality of life for people living with mitochondrial disease.
Matt’s Mito Mission hopes to support families through their individual mitochondrial journey. Given the unique nature of this disease, increased knowledge, skills and understanding is vital for mitochondrial patients, in order to improve their quality of life.
Proceeds from our ride will go to the Mito Medical Network to help fund medical experts to continue their research, support, education and care of people living with mitochondrial disease.
We will endeavour to raise awareness to honour Mitochondrial Warriors.
Matt’s Mito Mission has been created to spread awareness and raise funds near and far. By holding Postie Bike events where riders and drivers travel very long distances using one of Matt’s favourite forms of transport, a motorbike. Our preferred means of transport is the amazing little Postie Bike. Most of our riders love to ride the Honda NBC.
On our travels we will be stopping at many different towns bringing communities together to help spread awareness.
The distance travelled challenges our riders and drivers physically and mentally which is still easy compared to what a Mitochondrial fighter lives with on a daily basis. Matt’s Mito Mission is run by a small team made up of Matt’s family working closely with doctors and medical experts.
On the 12th April 2025 we will be off on our third postie bike adventure. Last year we had a few hiccups but the boys (and girls) are eager to hit the dirt roads once again. We wont have as much as our first year but I think a few hundred kilometres will keep them happy. We will have a two night stop at Broken Hill where we can take in some of the amazing surrounds like, Silverton and Menindee Lake. On our return, I think the boys will even get a lap (or two) in around Mt Panorama this year.
Let's see how many riders we have in 2025...
Here is our planned journey;
Londonderry, Young, Darlington Point, Balranald, Mildura, Broken Hill, Ivanhoe, West Wyalong, Blayney and Londonderry.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!
