Our family created the Postie Ride Adventure to honour our son, Matthew, and to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the devastating mitochondrial disease. Matthew was diagnosed with MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) when he was just 19 years old.
Throughout Matthew’s journey, the Mito Medical Network—a dedicated group of specialists—stood by our side, offering support, expertise, and hope. This newly formed professional body is committed to advancing understanding, research, and care for mitochondrial disease.
We want to give back to this extraordinary team of professionals so they can continue their vital work, providing hope and support to families and patients facing mitochondrial disease every day.
Our mission is deeply personal—to enhance the quality of life for every person living with mitochondrial disease.
Matt’s Mito Mission is born from our own family’s experience, and we are committed to supporting families as they navigate their unique and often challenging mitochondrial journey. Because mitochondrial disease presents itself so differently in each individual, it’s crucial to increase knowledge, skills, and understanding to truly make a difference in the lives of those affected.
All proceeds from our Postie Ride Adventure will go directly to the Mito Medical Network, a dedicated group of medical experts who supported Matthew and our family every step of the way. Their ongoing research, compassionate care, education, and support bring hope to so many, and with our help, they can continue their vital work to improve lives.
Through our efforts, we hope to raise greater awareness of mitochondrial disease and to honour the strength, resilience, and courage of all Mitochondrial Warriors fighting this relentless condition every day.

Matt’s Mito Mission was created to spread awareness and raise much-needed funds near and far. One of the ways we do this is through Postie Bike events, where riders and drivers embark on long-distance journeys using one of Matt’s favourite forms of transport—a motorbike. Our preferred ride is the beloved little Postie Bike, with many of our riders choosing the Honda NBC.
Along the way, we stop in towns and communities, bringing people together to share knowledge and raise awareness about mitochondrial disease.
The distances we travel challenge our riders physically and mentally, but these challenges pale in comparison to what those living with mitochondrial disease face every single day. Matt’s Mito Mission is led by a small, dedicated team of Matt’s family, working closely with doctors and medical experts to make a meaningful difference.

On 3rd April 2026, we will embark on our third Postie Bike Adventure, a journey that promises both challenge and incredible experiences. This year, our route takes us through the rugged and vast landscapes of Outback Queensland, where the wide-open spaces and unique communities offer a glimpse into life far from the city. From there, we will cross over the Great Dividing Range, winding through scenic mountain terrains before descending into the lush coastal regions and arriving at the beautiful beaches of Tweed Heads. This diverse route offers a mixture of tough riding conditions, breathtaking views, and a chance to connect with a variety of local communities along the way.
Last year’s adventure brought its own set of challenges and unexpected moments, but our team—made up of passionate riders and drivers, young and old—is enthusiastic and ready to tackle the roads once more. While this year’s distance may be shorter than in our inaugural ride, it will still demand physical endurance, mental focus, and teamwork, all while carrying the important message of awareness for mitochondrial disease.
We’ll take a two-night stop in Tweed Heads, giving us time to relax and enjoy the beautiful coastal environment. Riders and supporters can explore the stunning beaches, soak up the sun, and experience the vibrant local culture. For some extra fun and adventure, there’s also the option to visit nearby theme parks, perfect for families and friends to unwind and celebrate the journey together.
On our return leg, we will head through Tamworth, taking time to visit the iconic Big Guitar—a symbol of the town’s rich country music heritage. This stop is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australian culture and community spirit before completing our journey.
We’re eager to see how many riders will join us for this journey in 2026, each contributing to the cause and sharing in the adventure.
Our planned route will take us through the following towns:
Through this ride, we not only challenge ourselves physically and mentally but also aim to bring together communities from across these diverse regions to raise awareness, support, and hope for those living with mitochondrial disease.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!
